The Vintage T-Shirts Expedition

We are happy to announce that we’re now able to produce our very own All-American, ultra-soft, fashion-worthy shirt. Working with an L.A.-based textile mill means we get to spec the t-shirts right down to thread count, sizing, fit and color. No more compromises. Can you tell we’re excited?

Our new Destee Brand blank t-shirts are custom dyed, pajama-soft and downright refined, but not in a super-tight way that only people with perfect bodies can wear. We also revamped our print shop to silkscreen with water-based inks that give the shirts that soft-hand feel. Check out our new t-shirts today!

We’ve been noticing that a lot of our new customers land on our website after searching for vintage t-shirts. Many of them find what they’re looking for and buy a couple t-shirts. Some of them, however, click away when they don’t see the t-shirts they were expecting. The way we see it, we’re one of three distinct varieties of vintage t-shirt shops online. There are:

1. Places that carry t-shirts advertising vintage products or pop culture nostalgia, like Tab and RC Cola t-shirts or the Ghostbusters and Sesame Street tees.
2. Places that offer t-shirts with vintage styling, as in 70s fonts and 50s graphic design. These shirts aren’t really vintage; they’re just made to look that way.
3. And, in a class all our own, Destee-Nation. Our vintage t-shirts feature establishments from up and down the West Coast and in Hawaii. We started out characterizing a t-shirt as vintage if it met one of the following criteria:

• The place it represents has been around for a long time. Many of our member businesses have been selling their t-shirts since the middle of the last century.
• The represented business is a historic monument or landmark of some kind.

Recently, in our attempt to play fair with the shops that don’t have authentic vintage shirts, we decided to add our t-shirts with vintage styling to our featured list of vintage tees.

Our fearless leader recently knocked our socks and shoes off when he unveiled his amazing revision to our Desteenation logo. Matt explained that he’s been mulling it over for months now, trying to refine our existing logo to make it better communicate what it is we do exactly.

“I landed on a derivative of the road-sign as a way to express that we are on a perpetual road trip. Our t-shirt-seeking expedition is our story, and now the logo helps express that more quickly—especially to fresh eyes. Anyway, this new logo lends itself to a cool t-shirt too…”

There is a ton of effort involved with a change of this magnitude: think store signage, marketing materials, tags, stickers, the list goes on and on. So, expect to see this bad boy rolling out in a slow, metered fashion over the next few months. The t-shirt will be available sooner than later. Stay tuned.

Every few months we evaluate our t-shirt designs to see which ones people seem to like (read: buy), and which ones they aren’t so into. Catechem Sport Fishing has been on our list for a while, and we’re really excited with the new design.
